As wedding photographers it’s true that the majority of our weddings are between Spring and Autumn but what about those forgotten winter months? If you’re in the process of planning your wedding day then I think a winters day can be truly beautiful. The chill in the air, the bleakness and lack of foliage can mean bright colours stand out in a way that they never truly do in other seasons.
We love capturing different winter wedding days and with a bit of planning they can be every bit as stunning as a summers day. One big tip I would say which is really important for us (as we love working with natural light) is for your ceremony time to be fairly early in the day (12.00pm is ideal). That way we would still have some light available afterwards to go outside and capture some gorgeous wintery couple shots as well as some formals if you’re all wrapped up warm enough and if it’s not too cold for all of you.
Over the years we have seen some truly magical days and here are a few small highlights
- Taking hot chocolate (in thermos flasks), Emma Bridgewater Mugs and Faux Fur throws down to a wintery beach
- Snow scenes (lots of different ones here)
- Hot water bottles to warm toes on
- Such thick fog that it has a magical feel in photos
- Glorious frost in Thetford Forest
- Beautiful Snowdrops poking their heads out the ground!
Don’t even get me started on Christmas Weddings, I love the run up to Christmas (think twinkly lights, baubles, christmas trees and that festive feeling which you just don’t get at any other time of year). Having a wedding in the run up to Christmas with all the excitement and Christmas Sparkle is stunning.
So basically I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t immediately rule out a winter wedding …. they can be truly beautiful and we hope to photograph lots of wintery days in the future.
Here’s a very small selection of winter weddings for you to have a peep at (one of the weddings was March last year when we had snow and one was at the very end of November when Christmas trees were up) to give you a taste of what your winter wedding could look like. I hope they may inspire you to think about having a winter wedding yourself. Enjoy x
