To end our wedding season in the middle of December we photographed the most lovely little wedding. This was Steve and Sam’s day and it promised to be different from the moment I first spoke with them. This is the first ever surprise wedding we’ve photographed. All of the guests thought they were coming for a surprise birthday party for Steve organised by Sam but the surprise actually was that they were getting married and then having a meal to celebrate! So, rather than your traditional wedding day this one started with a stroll early in the morning down Southwold beach as a portrait session to capture the two of them and their three children. This was a lovely bit of time to capture them as a family before the dressing up began.
After our morning session we went back to The Crown Hotel in Southwold where the wedding was to take place and we stayed tucked away whilst the five of them got ready secretly. Meanwhile their guests thought they were the ones hiding downstairs!!! Then the time came when we were all in the ceremony room and the guests all came in looking a little bit confused until they were told by Steve and Sam that they were actually getting married … cue lots of happy tears and emotions at this point. Then a lovely ceremony followed by some drinks and photos.
This was such a lovely, intimate day to be a part of and we were really touched that Steve and Sam also made us both a little favours box with little gingerbread Christmas decorations (that will now proudly be hanging on our Christmas tree every year) on and the most delicious chocolates in! Steve and Sam looked so happy together with their families surrounding them and I think they summed up weddings perfectly for us … it’s about the people you share the occasion with that’s most important!
A wonderful wedding day to end our very busy year on and a day that we were so happy to share in. We’re certain that Steve and Sam will have many happy years of married life ahead of them!
Here’s a small peep at their day
