• Welcome

Well hello there and welcome to Hayley Denston Photography. We are Suffolk Wedding Photographers who live in a little village on the Suffolk/Norfolk Border. We travel as far and wide as we can to photograph weddings although we mainly photograph weddings in Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex. Our fingers are crossed that you've either found us through a personal recommendation or whilst looking for a wedding photographer in Suffolk, Norfolk or Essex. If not, perhaps you were simply having a browse for a Suffolk portrait photographer (as we do that too) or even just Suffolk wedding photography.

However you've arrived at our website we're pleased you're here and hope that you've got a few minutes (together with a cuppa and a biscuit) to have a look through our photos. We hope that you love what you see and that we'll get to meet and photograph you in the future.

This post is a bit of a mix with lots of different details from days that we’ve seen recently.

Let’s start with Handkerchiefs – I just love a good hankie and giving these out to guests for their tears last year was a really sweet and thoughtful finishing touch (as well as looking a little prettier in your photos than a toilet roll being handed around – before you ask, yes we have seen this but thankfully many years ago now).

Presents for bridesmaids can be tricky. I personally think these can reflect individuality so well and one beautiful gift I saw last year was make up bags with just the bridesmaids initials on, I thought these were really cute.

We often see dressing gowns with bridesmaid written on the back and as gorgeous as they are I can’t help wondering if they’ll be worn by the bridesmaid after the day and if they would have preferred just the dressing gown without the writing on (as they know when they were given it). I also like seeing unique necklaces or pieces of jewellery given as thank you gifts.

For little flowergirls however, I love things with the date on as they may not remember it in the same way as adults and it’s a lovely keepsake – I especially like the knitted dolls we occasionally see and the handmade dolls – I’ve never seen these not be loved and carried around by the little ones they’re given to.

To decorate your venue we usually see bunting and fairy lights (which are both always pretty) but here are some other different ideas we’ve seen recently too

If you’re having a marquee wedding setting aside a little area for ladies to peg up their hats is always quaint and handy to the people who’s hats they are.

We’ve recently had a few weddings where we’ve seen a traditional bell to be rung to get people in for their meal and to make announcements throughout the day (like the speeches) – I love this idea and hope we see it more

We still see traditional guest books at most weddings but if you think this may not be for you why not look at a quirkier take on this by encouraging your guests to leave a message on a game (or puzzle) piece or cork.

Hope that get’s the cogs turning for you and gives you some ideas, a lot of this post is personally what I would like and what I think works. Whatever you choose for your day, as long as you are happy with it that should be all that matters!

At the beginning of March I had the pleasure of spending some time with a lovely family at Southwold to celebrate an 80th Birthday. I always love family shoots and capturing the different relationships and generations.

It was a cold day but thankfully everyone braved the weather for a wander down the promenade and alongside the beach huts, a few spots of rain hit us but nothing to worry about.

With portrait sessions I’m often asked what people should wear and I always think first and foremost it should be something that you feel comfortable in. In terms of colour this is up to you as an individual, if you never ever wear colour then it may feel alien to you to wear something bright and then you’ll feel self-conscious which is never great for photos so wear things that you like (my only word of warning would be that very thin stripes and also checks can sometimes cause a funny little effect (known as moiré) to occur.

I personally love colour and the brighter the better so was delighted to see lots of bright pink for this session which really stood out against the grey of the sky and sea.

Here’s a small peep at the session for you, unfortunately a couple of the other people who attended the session weren’t keen on having their photos online so I haven’t put the gorgeous photos of all 6 of them together in the story today which is a bit of a shame as there’s some absolutely beautiful ones of them all laughing together.

Our next post to help those of you still planning your wedding is following on from last weeks on Wedding Bouquets and is on Buttonholes.

These can be as varied as bridal bouquets and every bit as beautiful. Just like with bouquets we see everything from the more traditional single rose to house leeks and hebes! I’ve tried to pop them a little into a colour order for you so hopefully if you have a colour scheme already you may find ideas that work for you.

Here’s just a small selection from the last few years for you to have a look at as well as a handful of corsages!

Our last congratulations this week go out to Claire and Sam today whose wedding we photographed at Haughley Park Barn last April. We hope that you get to celebrate your first wedding anniversary this weekend doing something really special. Yours was a gorgeous day to be a part of and the weather had changed into Spring and was just warm enough to enjoy having some time outside in the beautiful gardens at Haughley.

Today’s congratulations go out to Amber and Joe who are celebrating their first wedding anniversary and whose wedding we photographed at Jimmy’s Farm last year. This was such a windy, cold day but with a huge amount of happiness and the most confetti we’ve ever seen.

Amber and Joe are one of the loveliest couples you could hope to meet and we’re sure they’ll both be beamingly smiling and celebrating today.

If you’d like to see more photos and read about their day just click here!
